Dakota’s Next Generation EHS management platform now supports native QR code creation, giving safety and compliance leaders a simple way to keep safety top-of-mind right where work is done. Authorized users can generate and print codes directly within the platform, then place them on equipment, at facility entry points, or anywhere action is needed.
Based on our conversations with EHS leaders, we’ve introduced QR codes for two of the most common EHS use cases: 1) accessing checklists from the places where the inspections are conducted and 2) reporting of incidents and observations from the places where hazards are present.
Launching an inspection
Placed directly on a piece of equipment, a QR code can launch the correct inspection the moment it’s scanned. A code on a forklift opens the forklift inspection. A code near a stormwater outfall opens the stormwater inspection. With QRs, there’s no searching through a list of templates and no need to schedule the check in advance; scanning the code is the trigger. This helps prevent missed inspections, increases efficiency, and adds flexibility by supporting ad hoc inspections in addition to scheduled work.

Reporting an incident or observation
Placed in prominent work areas, a QR code gives employees an immediate way to report an incident or hazard while the details are still fresh, supporting a genuine “see something, say something” culture by promoting safety awareness as well as providing a mechanism for reporting. QR codes can be associated with facilities, so reports carry accurate site-level context from the first scan, without the reporter needing to specify where they are.
